Brodie's Story
The Challenge
Brodie was a foster dog struggling with significant lead reactivity, making walks stressful and difficult to manage.
Our Approach
Through practical, real-world training exercises, we worked on helping Brodie and his foster family develop calm, reliable behaviours in everyday situations
The Result
Brodie made remarkable progress and is now well on the path to becoming a calm, well-mannered companion.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We cannot recommend Steady Paw Dog Training enough. They have been instrumental in helping us with our foster dog, Brodie, who was highly reactive on the lead. What really stood out was the focus on real-world training exercises, showing first-hand how effective the techniques are in everyday situations rather than just controlled environments.
Each session was followed up with detailed notes, making it easy to recap what we had learnt and continue practising the key commands between sessions. The guidance was practical, supportive and tailored specifically to Brodie’s needs.
The progress we’ve seen has been incredible — Brodie is now well on the path to becoming an absolute angel, and it’s all thanks to Steady Paw Dog Training. We’re genuinely so grateful for the support and would highly recommend them to anyone dealing with lead reactivity or behavioural training.

Neville's Story
The Challenge
Neville was adopted by Katy and her husband from a shelter, he was rescued from the streets as a very young puppy. Neville’s favourite thing to do was to pull on the leash and to eat cat poop at any opportunity
Our Approach
Through practical, real-world training exercises, we worked on teaching Neville what pulling doesn’t lead anywhere, and that eating cat poop is not as good as staying engaged with his family.
The Result
Neville made remarkable progress and is now walking nicely on leash, and also leaving the cat poop alone.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Excellent service. Dirk has now visited us 3 times with our 8 month old puppy Neville. Working on basic commands to ensure a calm house, leash training and outside work. Instruction and guidance has been fantastic. We have had a great response from our pup and Dirk is on hand for simple recommendations ie food, toys etc. Would definitely recommend and look forward to working with him in the future!!
Bowie's Story
The Challenge
Bowie, an English Cocker Spaniel puppy, had only been with his new family for a couple of weeks when they reached out to Steady Paw. Like many new puppy owners, they were feeling overwhelmed by accidents in the house and struggling to understand how best to help him settle into family life. Bowie was also a nervous puppy, particularly around men, often choosing to hide rather than engage.
Our Approach
Rather than focusing solely on obedience, we helped Bowie's family understand how puppies learn and why patience, consistency, and clear communication are so important. Through practical, real-world training exercises, we worked on engagement, crate training, place work, loose leash walking, recall, and house training, while gradually helping Bowie build confidence in both himself and the people around him.
The Result
Over four training sessions, Bowie transformed into a more confident and engaged puppy. He is now toileting outside, walking nicely on leash, responding to recall, settling in his crate and on his place bed, and engaging confidently with his family. Most importantly, Bowie learned that the world isn't such a scary place after all.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We had a fantastic experience with Steady Paw Dog Training and especially with Dirk. He was incredibly patient, kind, and professional with Bowie, helping him work through his fears and build confidence at his own pace. Dirk not only trained Bowie but also taught our family how to properly communicate with and train him, which made a huge difference. His knowledge, calm approach, and genuine care for dogs really stood out. We’re so grateful for all of his help and would highly recommend Steady Paw to anyone looking for a trainer who truly cares about both dogs and their owners.
